Overview

The complete picture before you commit.

Honest, plain-English explanation no jargon, no hard sell. We want you to understand exactly what we're recommending and why.

What it is

Access control is a system that replaces or supplements physical keys with managed credentials fobs, key cards, PIN codes, smartphone apps or biometric (fingerprint) entry. Each user has their own credential, and the system records every entry, every attempt and every door event. Lost a fob? Disable it instantly. New employee? Issue a credential in seconds. No more cutting keys, no more lock changes, no more 'who has a key?' uncertainty.

Who it's for

Businesses managing staff entry to offices, stockrooms and restricted areas. HMO landlords managing tenant turnover without replacing locks. Letting agents controlling holiday-let access remotely. Schools, gyms and clinics managing member or patient access. And homeowners wanting smart, app-controlled entry to gates, garages and front doors.

When you need it

When you've lost a key (and have to consider every key out there compromised). When staff or tenant turnover means constant lock changes. When you need to know who entered when. When physical keys have become impractical for the number of users involved. When you want remote unlock for deliveries, cleaners or out-of-hours visitors.

Why professional install matters

Mechanical keys are inherently insecure they can be copied, lost, stolen and given out without your knowledge. Access control gives you instant control: revoke a credential and that person no longer has access, immediately. Time-restrict credentials so cleaners can only enter on Wednesdays 9–11am. Audit every entry. Combine with CCTV for visual confirmation. Once you've used access control, mechanical keys feel medieval.

What's at stake

What happens when this gets ignored.

Lost keys = lock changes

Every lost or unreturned key potentially compromises security and the only fix with mechanical locks is expensive, disruptive lock changes.

No record of who entered when

Without access control there's no way to audit entry leading to disputes about deliveries, attendance, theft and access during incidents.

Tenant and staff turnover

Every leaver represents a security risk. Returning all keys is rarely complete. Lock changes between every change of staff or tenant is unsustainable.

Inflexible mechanical locks

You can't time-restrict a key, you can't remotely revoke a key, and you can't unlock a key from your phone. Modern security demands modern access.

Our Process

A clear, predictable process no guesswork.

Four decades of installs has taught us exactly what works. Every customer follows the same well-tested path from first call to long-term aftercare.

  1. 1Step 1

    Site Survey

We assess door types, existing locks, power availability, network connectivity and the number of users to recommend the right system.

  2. 2Step 2

    System Design & Quote

Clear quote covering controllers, readers, locks, power supplies, cabling and software setup. Always fixed-price.

  3. 3Step 3

    Professional Installation

Doors prepared, electric strikes or magnetic locks fitted, readers mounted, cabling routed discreetly, controllers sited securely.

  4. 4Step 4

    User Setup & Credential Issue

All users programmed, credentials (fobs, cards, PINs or app accounts) issued, time-zones and access-rights configured.

  5. 5Step 5

    Training & Handover

We train your team on issuing new credentials, revoking lost ones, running entry reports and managing the system day-to-day.

Benefits

What you actually get on day one.

Instant Credential Revocation

Lost fob? Departed employee? Disable the credential in seconds no lock changes, no security gap.

Full Audit Trail

Every entry, every attempt and every door event logged with date, time and user searchable for years.

Time-Restricted Access

Cleaner only on Wednesday mornings? Contractor only between 8am and 5pm? Set time-zones per user, per door.

Remote Unlock From Anywhere

App-controlled systems let you unlock a door from your phone for deliveries, family or out-of-hours visitors.

Integration With Alarm & CCTV

Where access control sits alongside Texecom and HIKVISION, all three can share data entry events trigger CCTV, disarm alarms, log everything.

Cost Savings Long-Term

No more lock changes, no more cut keys, no more security audits asking 'who has a key?'. Pays back fast for any property with regular turnover.

Credential Types

We install systems supporting any combination of: proximity fobs and key cards (most common pocket-sized, durable, cheap to replace); PIN-code keypads (no physical credential to lose, ideal for shared spaces); smartphone app credentials (use your phone as the key no physical fob needed); biometric fingerprint readers (highest security, ideal for restricted areas); and combinations (e.g. fob + PIN for two-factor entry to high-value areas).

Lock Types

Electric strikes (replacing the existing strike plate, releasing the latch when energised) suit timber doors and most internal doors. Magnetic locks (mag-locks bonding the door closed with electromagnetic force) suit aluminium and glass doors and high-traffic commercial entrances. Electric mortice locks suit higher-security external doors. We assess each door and recommend the appropriate hardware.

Standalone vs Networked Systems

Standalone systems (single-door, all programming done at the reader) suit small premises with one or two doors and few users simple and cost-effective. Networked systems (multiple doors connected to a central controller, managed via PC or cloud software) suit larger premises with many doors and users, multi-site organisations, and anyone needing centralised management or remote credential issue. We install both.

Cloud-Managed Access Control

Modern cloud-managed systems (Paxton Net2, ICT Protege, HID Origo, plus our HIKVISION-integrated platform) let you manage access from anywhere via a web browser or app. Issue credentials remotely, revoke instantly, run reports, and get email alerts on suspicious activity. Ideal for landlords, multi-site businesses and any property managed remotely.

Residential Access Control

Residential installs typically cover front doors with smart locks (Yale, Avia, Aqara), driveway gates with intercoms and remote-release, garage doors with smart openers, and outbuildings. Often integrated with the HIKVISION doorbell so you can see and admit visitors from your phone.

Commercial Access Control

Commercial installs scale from a single front door for a small office to multi-site networks across dozens of doors. Common features include time-zoned access (different schedules for different roles), anti-passback (preventing one fob being shared by multiple people), interlocking (only one of two adjacent doors openable at a time, for clean rooms or secure areas), visitor management modules and integration with HR systems for automatic credential lifecycle.

How much does access control cost to install?+

Single-door standalone systems start around £450 fitted. Multi-door networked systems are quoted per project typically £350–£700 per door including hardware and software. Always fixed-price quotes.

What credentials do I issue to users?+

Most commonly proximity fobs (£3–£8 each) or key cards. We can also use PIN codes (no physical credential), smartphone apps, biometric fingerprint, or any combination based on your security needs.

What happens if someone loses their fob?+

You log into the system, click 'disable' on that user's credential it's revoked instantly. Issue a new fob in seconds. No lock changes, no security gap.

Can I unlock a door from my phone?+

Yes our app-enabled and cloud-managed systems include remote unlock. Useful for letting in deliveries, cleaners or family when you're not home.

Will it work with my existing alarm and CCTV?+

Yes where you have Texecom alarm and HIKVISION CCTV we integrate access control to share events: entry triggers CCTV recording, valid credentials disarm the alarm, audit trails are unified.

Is there a monthly subscription?+

Standalone systems have no subscription. Cloud-managed systems typically have a small per-door annual fee for the cloud platform clearly disclosed in the quote, never a surprise.

What happens during a power cut?+

All systems include backup batteries to maintain operation through a power cut (typically 4–8 hours). Doors fail to a safe state fail-secure (locked) or fail-safe (unlocked) per regulatory requirement.

Can different users have different access rights?+

Absolutely that's the core benefit. Time-zones, day-of-week restrictions, specific door access per user, temporary credentials with auto-expiry. Highly granular control.
